What do our model names mean?

Customers often ask us where our names come from. It’s quite a task to choose names not previously registered or in use by another company, especially as the naming rights category for bicycles is ‘wheeled vehicles’ and therefore rather large.

As Isla has a Scottish name, we found inspiration in the following Gaelic words. We don’t expect correct pronunciation, but we say:

  • Rothan (little wheels) “roth-an”
  • Cnoc (hillock) “knock”
  • Beinn (mountain) “ben”
  • Luath (swift, quick, speedy) “loo-ath”
  • Creig (rocky outcrop, crag) “creeg”
