Cycling Revolutionaries

Islabikes was born in 2006 through a desire to make proper bikes for kids.

Islabikes founder, Isla Rowntree; a multi-discipline cycling champion, was asked by her sister to recommend bikes for her kids. Isla was stunned at what was available. There was nothing worthy of recommendation.  Back then kid’s bikes were heavy, poorly constructed and not much fun to ride.

From that moment, Isla was inspired to launch a range of kid’s bikes delivering an unrivalled experience of cycling. Revolutionary in fact.

Our Beinn range (from £389.99) is perfectly proportioned and designed to make riding and exploring as easy and fun as possible.

The Islabikes difference

At Islabikes we believe the devil is in the detail. Designing the ultimate kid’s bike is a balance of countless factors, from wheel size to crank length, to produce the optimal riding experience.

The best children’s bikes aren’t simply mini adult bikes!

The proportions of kid’s bodies are significantly different to those of adults and change constantly as they grow. That’s why every bike in the Islabikes range from the smallest balance bike to our adult bikes are uniquely different.

Great bikes, not toys

Back in 2006 children’s bikes were generally viewed as toys and many still are.

This meant bikes featured lurid colours with tassels and other gimmicky features in an effort to appeal to children.

Our view is that a love of cycling comes from having a bike that is a joy to ride. This means focusing on design and build quality rather than novelty value.

Thousands of loyal customers and the press agree. Islabikes are the unrivalled leaders in children’s cycling.
