Why is sizing so important?
With the correct size bike, your child will develop their cycling skills quickly, easily and safely whilst being more comfortable on their bike. Not only does this help increase confidence and boost their self-esteem but, best of all, it means they can start riding straight away.

Choose your new Beinn
Lightweight, perfect fit bikes that inspire confidence
Perfectly proportioned for children, the lightweight Beinn frame is designed with the biggest wheels possible for each size model, giving young riders a much smoother and stable riding experience than smaller wheeled equivalents. The Beinn is a comfortable and easy ride, shrinking limits and expanding confidence of small riders everywhere.
We don’t weigh our Beinn down with the untamed bounce of lookalike suspension or a punishingly stiff alloy fork. Our supple steel tapered leg forks keep the Beinn light and responsive while increasing control and reducing hand and arm tiredness.
The Beinn’s bottom bracket height lowers its centre of gravity and saddle height relative to the ground. The result is that the rider can have the saddle at the correct height to go through an efficient pedaling motion, but also feel secure in reaching the ground with their feet. This detail is vital for boosting rider confidence and enjoyment.
Perfect control for small hands
Everything on our Beinn handlebars is designed exclusively to give smaller hands full size control. From our unique super-light brake levers and downsized bars to grips, nothing is too much trouble to guarantee safety and comfort.
We shook the world of children’s bike design when we introduced our exclusive junior-size brake levers. The latest versions are proportionally sized for each age group and we preset reach and pad position before delivery for guaranteed fingertip control. Light action, high performance mini V brakes provide steep descent power.
Each Beinn gets a lightweight bar with its own width and shape. That means grips, brakes and gears are all in the right place, not cramped together. The size-specific sweep angle puts hands and wrists in the most comfortable position to handle steering and braking duties.
In addition, the grips are designed to prevent injuries during those inevitable crashes. They are reinforced at the end and feature bar plugs for the added protection from exposed handlebar ends. Finally the Beinn’s stem can be flipped to adjust bar height and we also add height setting spacers to allow for perfecting rider positioning.
Lightweight wheels deliver a smooth-rolling, responsive ride
Creating the perfect high performance, lightweight wheels for every bike is what we do at Islabikes. We literally drill into every detail from spoke count to valve type then wrap them in our own tyre designs to underline the Beinn’s ultimate all-round ability.
Our exclusive Islabikes tyres use a 72 tpi construction and are proportionally sized for each wheel size in the Beinn range. The tread is tuned to roll fast on roads and grippy enough for off-road fun. Regardless of terrain, the built-in puncture proofing keeps you riding, while reflective sidewalls enhance safety and visibility, day and night.
Kids don’t need heavy adult wheels. Model-specific Islabikes wheels are spec’d with 20 or 24 super thin, high quality spokes to keep them light, lively and strong. Our super light hubs with tool free QR attachment make storage and transport easy, and tyre inflation is effortless using the Presta valves as opposed to the ‘car-style’ Schrader valves.
Comfortable and efficient pedaling
You won’t find Islabikes’ size-specific, narrow-stance cranks and specially shaped pedals on any other bike, which is why a Beinn starts, pedals, corners and stops better than any other kids’ bike.
We don’t compromise any part of a Beinn, particularly something as crucial as cranks and pedals. Beinn cranks are the right length for each bike and its rider, so there’s no overstretch of legs and pedaling is efficient and easy. Shorter cranks also allow a lower, more stable bike for confident cornering without clipping pedals.
The narrow Q factor (the distance between pedals) of Islabikes cranks mean feet are closer together when pedaling. But why is Q-factor important?
With a wide Q-factor a rider with shorter legs will find their legs going out to the side when pedaling at a far greater angle than an adult rider with longer legs. This increased angle is uncomfortable and makes pedaling less efficient because part of the force is going off sideways rather than downwards. Not only that, the sideways forces can make the rider sway as they pedal.
Double chainguards keep the chain secure even across rough terrain and the single front chainring makes changing gear a simple sequential process, not a major headache.
Our lightweight exclusive pedals are size-specific, designed to rotate under the foot for easy getaway and give more ground clearance in corners, ruts and roller coaster whoops when a dab can be a disaster.
Simple, intuitive gearing
The SRAM X4 Gripshift keeps the rider’s hands fully on the bars at all times for simple control of a wide range of gears.
Gripshift is totally intuitive and allows the child to keep their whole hand on the bar, using the strength from two fingers and their thumb to affect the shift. It also means no stretching for distant adult sized gear triggers and SRAM’s 1:1 cable pull ratio gives a super light action.
Many kids’ bikes are painfully over-geared, but our single 32 tooth chainring with 12-32 wide range rear cassette gives easy gear options for conquering climbs. Children don’t have the muscle to power up climbs in the same way that an adult can, but given the right gear they can still conquer that hill.
Perfectly shaped saddles for the longest adventures
Islabikes saddles naturally centre Islabike riders to guarantee efficient pedaling and a comfortable position. Whilst carefully distributed padding is soft enough for impromptu play but firm for the right support on the longest adventures.
The Beinn is the ultimate multi-tasker
The Beinn has always been our most versatile cycling superhero. Light frames and easily lowered handlebars make them swift on the road. Top quality materials and parts, plus stable handling, keep them tough enough for the wildest off road exploring.
Our unique racks and mudguards carry cargo and protect from weather without rattles or paint damage from poorly fitted after-market ones. Carefully selected USB lights, correctly sized panniers and propstands equip the Beinn perfectly for a healthy school run.
Switching tyres changes character immediately. Slicks for road racing, reinforced rubber for adventure touring or unstoppable school run safety. Narrow knobblies for bike paths and cyclo-cross racing, fat knobblies for confident terrain conquering grip down the woods.
Ultimately, your child’s Beinn is whatever kind of bike they want it to be.
