Designed without compromise for aspiring young riders
At 6.5kg including pedals, this is the lightest Beinn we have ever made, but it goes beyond just the weight. Islabikes’ refined geometry and holistic design process means everything from grips to frame size work perfectly with the rider, resulting in an unparalleled fit and experience.
For some time now it has been recognised that bigger wheels have the advantage over smaller ones. The shift from 26” wheels, which used to be the standard for adult mountain bikes, to 27.5” and 29” wheels proves this. We’ve designed the Beinn 20 Pro Series with the biggest wheels possible for its intended rider, giving the performance benefits of a smoother ride and enhanced stability.
The Beinn Pro Series’ low bottom bracket height reduces its centre of gravity and saddle height relative to the ground. The result is that the rider can have the saddle at the correct height for an efficient pedaling motion, but also feel secure in reaching the ground. This detail is vital for boosting rider confidence.
320g carbon fibre fork for the lightest possible weight and premium ride comfort
Smaller, lighter riders don’t need the significant extra weight and inferior performance of a lookalike suspension fork, or the punishing stiffness of an alloy one. We’ve matched the Beinn Pro Series’ stunning frame with an ultra-light, Islabikes full UD carbon fibre disc fork.
Hydraulic disc brakes and exclusive handlebars give total control to small hands
Pro Series handlebars with rider specific width, shape and sweep angle are 30% slimmer than standard adult bars. Combined with super slim grips they keep brake levers within reach and grip uncompromised. The close to bar pivots on Sram levers allow us to pre-adjust the Beinn Pro Series’ brakes for minimum reach and maximum control. Smaller 140mm rotors are lighter than standard and offer a greater level of controlled braking for lighter riders.
Gripshift, SRAM rear mech and narrow wide chainring for light, intuitive shifting
Gripshift allows riders with smaller hands to comfortably shift without taking their hands from the bars. A single chainring removes the extra weight, complication and slower shifts of a front derailleur. Finally, the narrow wide aluminium chainring combined with clutch-equipped rear derailleur stops the chain rattling off when things get rough.
Even the fittest kids are often painfully over-geared, finding it difficult to conquer the challenges ahead of them. We deliver the gears that get the most from their potential with our single 32-tooth chainring and 9-speed, wide range 11-36 cassette.
Uncompromised pedaling with ultralight, narrow Q-factor cranks and titanium axled pedals
Islabikes' ultra-narrow 135mm Q-factor, 114mm long cranks give improved pedaling comfort and efficiency for young riders. Pro Series pedals with titanium axles and anodised grip pins add up to a very light, grippy and robust pedal which is perfectly sized for smaller feet.
Q-factor, or the horizontal distance between the pedals, is particularly important for riders with shorter legs. With a wide Q-factor the rider will find their legs going out to the side when pedaling at a far greater angle than a rider with a narrow Q-factor. This increased angle is uncomfortable and makes pedaling less efficient because part of the pedaling force is going off sideways rather than downwards. Not only that, the sideways forces can make the rider sway as they pedal, upsetting steering and making learning difficult. A narrow Q-factor maintains a comfortable and efficient pedaling action by positioning a rider’s feet closer together.
Race-light, trail-tough tubeless ready wheels
Racers' favourite Stan’s No-Tubes Crest rims have been downsized and built onto Islabikes' lightweight, cartridge bearing hubs with super thin, double butted stainless steel spokes. Islabikes Pro Series tubeless ready tyres are the final ingredient with a tread design and compound optimised to offer fast rolling, yet grippy performance for lighter riders.
Proportionally designed Islabikes Pro Series tyres can be run tubeless, reducing rotating weight and letting you run lower pressures. The result is extra grip and comfort without increasing the risk of punctures. The tyre’s 185 TPI casing and tan sidewalls give a supple ride quality whilst keeping weight down.
